What to visit in Marta
Monuments and places of interest to visit in Marta
The interesting historical monuments to visit in Marta, in addition to the famous Clock Tower, are the Renaissance palace from the Farnese period, which stands next to the Town Hall, and especially the Romanesque Sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte, renovated at the end of the 15th century, located at the top of a panoramic hill, not far from the historic center.
This sacred place for the people of Marta is also important because it is the center of the traditional and extraordinary Barabbata festival. Marta's economy, in the absence of industry, is mainly based on agriculture, fishing, and fish trade.
The proximity to cities such as the capital Viterbo, Terni, and Rome makes it an ideal destination for pleasant outings throughout the year. The small harbor, located at the head of the lake where its only outlet, the Marta River, begins, hosts numerous boats and is the starting point for excursions to the islands and for water sports.
The beach, not far from the town center and kept in its natural state, is partly shaded and never overly crowded, allowing for a complete recreational activity for swimmers.
As for the festivals, absolutely not to be missed: May 14th – Feast of the Madonna del Monte or “Barabbata” and the Sunday following May 14th – Sagra del lattarino.
